For those of you who have not seen the coverage in the local press, it was quite an opening day, with people lined up early in the morning to be the first through the doors, with goodie bags and saver cards for the first 300 visitors. If you have not yet been to check it out, then today is your day! On Wednesday 13th November, Whole Foods South Lake Tahoe is donating 5% of all their sales revenue to the Club. We are so excited to have created this partnership and to be chosen as one of Whole Foods’ local charities. Indeed, we have been extremely impressed by how Whole Foods have approached local charitable giving with the opening of a store here.
Perhaps most importantly, they have gone local! Many large, national or international brands have their selected charities chosen at the national level, resulting in focus on where the headquarters is based, or on huge charities rather than local giving. We are appreciative that Whole Foods goes local at each of their stores and takes the time to plan and work on local giving. We have also been impressed that Whole Foods took advice, met with local non-profits, and then carefully selected who to work with based on the companies values and what they are able to donate.
Here in South Lake, Whole Foods is understandably focusing on food and their year round charity will be Christmas Cheer – which we can all agreed is a fantastic choice. BGCLT is the recipient of the 5% day as they also want to give to children and programs who provide food – as we do every day. The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless will be another non-profit recipient and Whole Foods have also sponsored a number of local events including Sample the Sierra and TEDx South Lake Tahoe.
It is very refreshing to see a large, international corporation have such a local focus and we hope that the store is an incredible success, enabling them to do even more for the community in the coming years.
So please, go buy lunch, go buy dinner, go buy your household essentials and a Christmas gift for your aunt TODAY and support the Club. And also show Whole Foods that they were right to choose the Club and right to invest in this community – because we care and we appreciate their local focus!
