SKYE’S PLAYGROUND

The New Community Playground

On May 30, 2025, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe broke ground on a new playground at the Angel of Tahoe Clubhouse. With strong community support, the Club replaced it with a modern, inclusive space for all ages and abilities. Designed with input from members, staff, and local firm Design Workshop, the playground features updated play structures, improved safety and accessibility. The playground opened in summer 2025 and serves more than 2,000 children and teens annually, becoming a vibrant hub for neighborhood families and youth programs.

DEDICATED TO SKYE

“Skye, our Gordon Setter, was deeply loved. He brought warmth, comfort, trust, and joy into everyday life. He enjoyed the familiar routines, especially walks and, of course, chasing birds. He was content, as he knew he was exactly where he belonged, in a safe and loving home. Skye was a true companion, not only to us but to our other dogs. Although Skye has now passed away, his place in our life remains that of a faithful friend, steady, loving, and always remembered.”

Robert Felton & Lindsay Wallis, Community Members & Skye’s Owners

“Playgrounds are the foundation for classrooms… Kids spread their wings, take leaps, and learn to play.”

– Luke Borchers, Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Health and Wellness Coordinator

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

DESIGNED BY KIDS

Design Workshop, an international design studio, visited our Angel of Tahoe building for their volunteer day on January 13, 2023. Our Club members and staff came together to brainstorm how we could make a safer, more fun, and inclusive playground for our Club and the community. Based on the ideas that were discussed, Design Workshop outlined a series of sketches to represent our vision.

“Research shows outdoor play involving some level of physical activity has a positive impact on a child’s mental health because it increases natural endorphins, fosters higher self-esteem, and contributes to well-rounded social relationships.”

– Dr. Tracy Protell, Barton Psychiatry
