The phone has been ringing off the hook for the past month as understandably parents want to know about their options for the summer. And options are limited this year. The FRC and the City will not be running their programs. LTCC have a fantastic selection of summer programs, and the Presbyterian Church will be running their summer camps, but the Club is the only program running for all school age groups for full days.
The saying goes that every dark cloud has a silver lining, but here at the Club we feel that we have been blessed with rainbows to light up our dark days over the past year. Two of those rainbows have been our incredible donors and the members that they have supported. One year ago we launched Team AWESOME and the response has been amazing. We had already done the groundwork to update our annual giving campaign prior to the pandemic, but when it became apparent that COVID was here for the long haul, we quickly adapted Team AWESOME to focus on our food program and scholarships.
We are now three days into the new school year and either you kid is now a zoom genius or you are still struggling to get your 5 year old to look at the screen (mine doesn't understand that his teacher can't still see him when he goes off for a wander around the room!). It is all very quiet here at the Club after the busyness of summer and there is a strong smell of bleach as the staff are deep cleaning each room and setting up tables and chairs for the start of the Fall Program next week.
The Club staff have been hard at work for the last two weeks preparing for the Club to reopen for the summer. Just as with restaurants, casinos etc there are new guidelines that the Club will be following to ensure that we provide as safe an environment as possible for our members and staff.
