Or, more precisely, to the Club. In mid November, Sierra House School had an electrical fire in one of the reading classrooms that caused significant damage, and as a result, the entire school is vacating to enable extensive remediation work to be completed.
The Club is delighted that we have the ability to open our rooms and make ourselves available to the school. Starting on Monday 17th December the whole of Sierra House will be at our site. To fit everyone in the school will be doing a split schedule. K-2nd in the morning and 3rd-5th in the afternoon.
From 9am to 4pm, the Club will be providing fun programs for the students not in class with their teacher. So if a 1st grader gets out at 1pm, they can then be with Club staff until 4pm when they get the bus or are picked up. However, if they are already a member of the Club, then at 4pm they can sign into Club and be part of the after-school program as usual. Unfortunately, those students who are not already Club members will have to do paperwork and join our wait-list for membership.
For non-Sierra House members it is business as usual. The middle school will no longer be having collaborative on Wednesdays, but will come to Club as soon as the school day ends, and all other schools will be bused over as normal.
We do however want to caution parents that 4pm is going to be an excessively busy time in our parking lot. Not only will Sierra House buses be departing, but buses from the other schools will be arriving. We will also have the afternoon Sierra House teaching staff departing and the Sierra House parents who don’t use buses picking their children up. LTUSD staff will be directing traffic but we expect to have no free spaces in our parking lot during the school day. Therefore if you normally pick up at 4pm; you might find it far more enjoyable and less frustrating to wait until 4.15 or 4.30pm to pick your child up.
For the vacation, only the Club and Appleseed Preschool will be operational, and therefore it will be a return to our normal routine and a quiet parking lot. Please don’t forget that we will be closed on the 24th, 25th, 31st and 1st. Club hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm.
During their time at the Club Sierra House has a new number – 530 318 1517. If you have ANY questions regarding the school day, kids zone or normal Sierra House activities, please call that number and not the Club number. The phone system are separate so we will not be able to transfer you to any LTUSD staff.
At this time we are expecting to host Sierra House for a minimum of three weeks and will continue to update members as we receive further information. A huge shout out must go to all the BGCLT team, but especially Ashley Hall, Kelly Giardina and Ali Messina for their amazing can do attitudes and flexibility.
The Holidays are an important opportunity to teach our children the importance of giving and care for those less fortunate. While we sincerely empathize with the Sierra House students, staff and families who will be inconvenienced by their stay with us, we are proud and delighted that we were able to say ‘yes, we have room at our inn’.
