On Saturday 19th September over 250 volunteers from Heavenly and Kirkwood volunteered at the Club at part of the 2015 Vail Epic Promise Day. Described as their ‘biggest challenge yet’ the staff at Heavenly and Kirkwood spent months working with the staff at the Club and Vail Headquarters to determine the scope of the project and what was possible in the 3 hours of allotted time. The result was beyond all our dreams.

Every room was painted, we have new bag hooks in the hallway, our storage shed was completely renovated, the swings and handball courts were painted, a new sandbox was constructed, new wood chippings laid on the playground, our vehicles were overhauled, our computers cleared of viruses and given improved parental controls, and new signs and decorations put up in each room. Furthermore, another 45 volunteers came the following Tuesday to deep clean each room and to put all the furniture back. The kids love the new look and it is the perfect start for the school year. We could never have achieved so much in such a short space of time without Epic Promise and are so grateful to the many Heavenly and Kirkwood staff who gave so many hours of their own time to improving our Club.

We would also like to thank Meeks (especially Carlos Fidel), South Tahoe Refuse, Ed Cook Tree Service, and many other local vendors who donated labor and/or supplies for the day.

The day of volunteerism is part of the broader Vail Resorts Epic Promise program aimed at supporting youth programs and environmental initiatives in local communities in which company’s resorts operate. Vail’s Epic Promise mission is:

At Vail Resorts, everything we do is built upon the promise of bringing together the mountains, our communities, employees and guests to ignite a passion for the outdoors, conserve the natural environment and support our local communities for a bright, sustainable future.

The Boys & Girls Club was thrilled to be selected for the 2015 Epic Promise Day. The Club has also received additional support from Vail Resorts through the Epic Promise local community non-profit grant program.
