It was the Red Hawks versus the Blue Smurfs.
Blue vs. Red and COLOR WAR! 1 win for blue and 1 win for red… who will win it all???

If you couldn’t tell from the war paint, it was Color War at the Club this week. The Club divided into two teams, who called themselves the Red Hawks and the Blue Smurfs, and then took on four days of competitions and challenges to raise points for their team. The staff’s favorite challenge were the silent lunches – such bliss for our ears! But the kids really enjoyed taking on the admin team in staring competitions, games of horse and in particular the step challenge. One member ran laps around the field, he was so determined to win his step challenge!
Aside from the great fun we all had, Color War also taught the members important lessons regarding team work, how to win and lose gracefully, how to behave appropriately when in competition with others and the importance of working to benefit the group. In the end the Blue Smurfs were victorious, in part because they showed better sportsmanship over the four days, but also because the ‘smurf town’ that they built for their base was pure magic.
It is incredible to think that we are already approaching the forth Friday of the summer vacation. We’ve already packed so much into the past few weeks but there is still so much to come. Next Monday the teens are off on their backpacking trip. Snow levels are such this year that there may be a bit of bushwacking involved to avoid the deepest sections, but we have a great group of kids going and know that they are in the best of hands with Elizabeth, Ashley and Maggie from the TRTA.
Next week we also have a field trip for gold group, nutrition lessons with Carmela, swimming and lots of different group activities.
Couple of reminders for the summer:
- Please DO NOT send you child to the Club wearing flip flops, they are not suitable for all the running and playing that we do. CLOSE TOED SHOES are essential and will help avoid us having to administer first aid when children trip over their own shoes!
- We have sunscreen but always put sunscreen on your child in the morning and we will top up as necessary.
- Bread and Broth for Kids will be dropping off bags of food for children on Wednesdays. If you need extra food for your family then please let us know – no questions asked – and we will make sure you get as much as you need.
- Finally we closed at 5.30pm in the summer. 5.35pm means that you are late and while we totally understand that traffic is terrible right now, the staff also have children to pick up and homes to get to after a long day at work, so your help in a prompt pick-up is much appreciated.
We hope that you are having a wonderful summer and look forward to another six weeks of fun and learning.
