Volunteer at Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

At the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, we prioritize the safety of our members. That’s why all volunteers and mentors aged 18 and over must undergo Live Scan fingerprinting and other background checks before engaging with the kids. We encourage volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months, ensuring continuity and positive relationships with the youth. Your time and dedication can make a lasting impact in the lives of our members.

Think back to a special person in your life when you were growing up. It might have been a teacher, a coach or a neighbor. Someone who was always there for you, someone who made you feel special, someone you could talk to and they would listen. You can be that person to a young person. For as little as an hour a week, you can be a mentor! The mentoring takes place right at the Club.

As a mentor, I get far more from my relationship with my mentee than I can ever give. I was a little nervous at first…but all that went away the first week when he was just so happy to see me. I love spending time together and hearing how his day went. ~Stephen~

I am a mentor to 3 girls. They bring me such joy each week. Sometimes we meet all together and sometimes I spend time individually. We get to read, play board games and do art. What we enjoy most though is just spending time talking. ~Tamara~

What do you like to do? Play an instrument? Read? Sew? Hike? Cook? Art? Computers? Play sports? Are you a business owner? A mechanic? An Attorney? Whatever it is you do in your life, there is always a young person who would be interested and with whom you can share your knowledge, talent, passion and time! Program Volunteers are partnered with Boys & Girls Club staff to either assist with a program, or perhaps even lead a small group in an activity.

I started coming to the Club once a week and I get to sew with the kids. I have so much fun seeing their faces and giggles as they learn to sew on a button and go home with a pillow we make. I love that these kids get to eventually learn to use a sewing machine too. ~Sherri~

High School and Middle School Students (this is a part of our L.I.T. Leaders In Training Program)

As a Jr. Volunteer, you get to be a positive role model to our younger members. You will be involved in the LIT program and receive on-going training to learn fun games to play with the kids, how to help them with their homework, spend time reading with them and other activities for them to show you how smart they are!

This is a great way to earn those COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS that will help you when it comes time to apply for College, Scholarships and Jobs!

I have been a member of the Club since I was in the 3rd Grade. I started volunteering and helping out when I was in Middle School, and all through High School. I graduated this year, and because of all my volunteer work, I not only had a part-time paid job at the Club, I just received a $1,000 Scholarship from the Club to attend Lake Tahoe Community College in the fall this year! I love being a volunteer at the Club! ~Randy~

GOLF CLASSIC VOLUNTEERS: Our Annual Golf Tournament at Edgewood Tahoe is a very important fundraising event for our club. It is held mid October and we are always in need of volunteers to help both during the summer to get Raffle and Silent Auction Prizes and of course to help out at the event. In return our volunteers get to join us for breakfast before the tournament begins and dinner/drinks afterwards. Email [email protected] to volunteer for our Golf Classic.

TAHOE BREWFEST VOLUNTEERS: This has become the Clubs main fundraiser and we absolutely could not make this event happen without our volunteers. We need volunteers from 7am until after the event ends.  There are many jobs we need help with for Brewfest: set up, pouring beers, making sure the entrance runs perfectly and helping tear down the entire event, there’s a job for anyone! If you aren’t working during event hours (or only for half the event), we make sure you can enjoy some of the event with unlimited samples of craft brews, sodas and kombucha. *To sample alcoholic beverages you will be ID’d and must be over 21. Email [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering.

For both of these events volunteers get that ‘feel good’ knowledge that they have raised valuable funds for the Club!
