Summer is coming to an end and the school year is closely following. Our members have had an eventful summer. Here is a recap of some of the wonderful programs, field trips, and activities that took place this summer.

Our Teen members participated in a Paddle Board build that allowed 11 members to build 3 paddle boards completely from scratch. During the course of 2 1/2 weeks our members put the skeleton of the boards together, put in copper wires, sanded and smoothed the boards, put in bulkheads (a dividing wall or barrier between compartments in a ship, aircraft, or other vehicle), put the top on, put down their designs, applied fiberglass over top to seal in design and finally sand the board and its exterior down. All of this was made possible by  Antone & Tahoe Maritime Museum. Our members learned the process from start to finish and had the chance to take the paddle boards out on their maiden voyage on  July 8, 2014. Below are some photos taken during the process.

We have had some very fun and enriching field trips such as, The Aerospace museum, Tahoe Science center, Barton Memorial Hospital, Fallen Leaf Lake, EZ Air, Wild Island and many more. How Fun! We also had BMX club, Ice Skating, Ice Hockey, Swimming and Golf Club happening throughout the summer. We feel our members enjoyed summer and all that Lake Tahoe has to offer. As we prepare ourselves and our members for the up coming school year, we are continuing to keep them in the school spirit with our Brain Gain programming. Brain Gain helps to keep members fresh on math, spelling and other curriculum that will be useful during the school year. We have also implemented W.O.R.D.S (Wonders Of Reading During Summer) currently our k-2 grade members are trying to reach their goal of reading 100 books this summer. Over all, Summer is a time where skin gets darker, hair gets lighter and our Youth get Smarter.

Stay tuned for our Fall program planner
