The 23rd annual Golf Classic started with a dusting of snow on the ground and a sold-out crowd of bundled up players ready to take on the cold on what turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. A breakfast buffet was provided by Edgewood Tahoe to get the players ready for an 18-hole round of golf. With snowcapped mountains over the lake, players began their round of golf at 11am with a shotgun start. The course was filled with love and support from our community; beer donated by Alibi Ale Works, vodka donated by Tahoe Blue Vodka for our Bloody Mary tent, and Chimayo grill serving up tacos. With the help of Edgewood Tahoe, we were able to keep out players happy and warm with hot chocolate and coffee throughout the day. The Hillblom Foundation sent a gracious donation for two teams in this year’s tournament and we are thankful for their continuous contribution. Kirk David, running for STPUD board, was out enjoying the course as a Hole-in-One sponsor with local company MDDM. Tahoe Basin Container was another Hole-in-One sponsor for the 3rd year in a row and had two great teams competing. MacDuff’s Inc. was also a Hole-in-One Sponsor, and a great addition to the tournament! MacDuff’s is always an amazing supporter and this year was no different. With their positive attitude on the course, we all had a great time. This year’s Golf Classic even had a Jaguar/Land Rover of Reno Hole-in-One prize on hole #17. Although the car was not won this year, we are hoping to have someone win it in future years! With the support of our community, we are able to go above and beyond each year for a great tournament. In addition to our Hole-in-One Sponsors, we had 13 other tee and marketing sponsors to help us raise our goal. The local businesses that were tee sponsors were: Barton’s Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, South Tahoe Optimist Club on two holes, BELFOR Restoration, Harrah’s of Lake Tahoe and South Tahoe Refuse Recycling Center. The local business that were marketing sponsors were: CAA Professionals, KRLTFM, Hard Rock Café, Fromarc Insurance, US Bank, Sysco, and the Tahoe Daily Tribune. Despite the weather, each one of our sponsors showed up for the kids of the Boys & Girls Club. With the day coming to an end, the raffle and silent auction were a great success. With many chances to win golf getaways from Arizona to Northern California, they were snatched up quickly. The raffle was a great hit with a bike from South Shore Bikes and over 30 other great prizes. The dinner was also provided by Edgewood Tahoe and we were happy to see all of our player’s smiling faces hanging out. Our youth-of-the-year, Mya Rossi, came to the event after her day at school to talk with players and to speak about the important impact the Club has made on her life.

In all, we would like to thank each and every one of our supporters for coming out and helping us keep the doors open for the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. We are pleased to announce that our overall event raised over our goal of $50,000! With a total of almost $52,000 we will be able to continue “to empower all young people to reach their full potential.” Thank you to the members of South Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas for embracing the cold and helping us surpass our fundraising goal!
